Best destinations in Mexico: Where to go and what to do in this magical country. Where to stay, including All-Inclusive resorts.
Cabo San Lucas
Cabo is probably the most expensive and coveted destination in Mexico nowadays. From my personal experience, I think is good to stay for a weekend. A week, as I did, is too long simply because it is small, the nightlife is the same single street where all the bars are located, and the same with restaurants and the beach. Due to its strategical position on the sea, Cabo's port is one of the most expensive in the world which makes the town extremely expensive a well.

Where to stay in Cabo san Lucas?
There are a few beautiful resorts in Cabo that I assure won't be affordable but here is one Called Corazon Cabo:
This has a perfect location, wonderful amenities, a nice restaurant.
Airbnb is another option that could be affordable depending on what you are looking for. For around $70 per night you can stay 10 min walk from Downtown and it will look like this:

Another affordable option is the Mayan Monkey right downtown. They work part as a hostel, and part as a hotel since they have private rooms located on the opposite side of shared rooms to avoid noise and disruptions. I have to be clear here: if you go to any beach location in Mexico as Cabo or Cancun, they music will start sounding at 10 a.m and will stop at midnight.

What to do in Cabo San Lucas?
Boat ride:
Take a boat to see the Arch of San Lucas. There are boats with a clear bottom through which you can see all kinds of colorful fish swimming in the ocean.

Along the ride you will also spot the natural shape of the rock called "The Wolf Howling", some beaches, and caves.
The tour was about $50 dollars and was booked through Viator.com
Bagatelle Beach Club: This is a good option either during the day or during the night. The music is awesome, the vibe is great, during the night they have a show that is absolutely incredible. It is a little bit pricey.
Corazon Beach Club
Perfect spot to grab cocktails and enjoy the beach, they have beach chairs with no fee, the only requirement is to purchase at least one drink.

Shopping:
There are some very cute stores on the street called Pelicanos and P. de la Marina. The boutiques have very authentic products, from decor, to accessories, bags and clothing.
Enjoy the Beach:
For best beaches in Cabo, I recommend Milky Beach for a more relaxed experience. Mango Deck and The Sand Bar for a party experience, they have covers at times of $20.
Where to eat in Cabo San Lucas?
Two restaurants I like: The office and Edith's are within the same area, equally awesome and the ambience and atmosphere are just perfect to be delighted for a couple of hours. https://edithscabo.com

Is Cabo San Lucas Safe?
It is safe to be with someone else, or if alone going out during the day. I experienced a lot of verbal harassment walking with another female either at 8 p.m, or 11 p.m and some of the things the would say are very aggressive. I would definitely not be wondering alone at night. This was downtown where there is people around and it is not dark, I can't imagine how the situation would develop in a darker area or a few blocks away from downtown during the night. I strongly recommend to go with someone else.
How to go from the Airport to Cabo?
I got you!
There are some private transportations like this that I used: Froilan Pineda: +52 624 242 3940
There is also a public bus that takes you right downtown but it takes one hour and thirty minutes and makes stops with a lot of frequency. The bus stops right at the airport and all you have to do is to ask somehow who works at the same airport before you exit, where is the stop. If you ask when you exit the airport they will pretend the don't know about the bus because they are taxi drivers looking for costumers.
Uber works but it's tricky, they are not allowed to actually get inside the airport to pick you up, so when you make the request they will contact you to tell you they will wait for you outside and you will find yourself having to walk a few blocks with your luggage to find it. It still way cheaper than a taxi. To drop you off at the airport they will ask you to seat on the passenger seat and pretend you know them.
Mayan Riviera
The Mayan Riviera Is the East Coast of Mexico, the convenient itinerary to be close to the airport the last day is drive all the way to Tulum, then visit Playa del Carmen-Yucatan-Isla Cozumel and at last Cancun-Isla Mujeres.

Riviera Maya

It's a very humble region with the best beaches, especially during the morning close to the ruins. The options to stay here go from campings to luxury hotels, there are condos, hostels, airbnbs. The "Downtown" area is about 4 km from the beach, the main street has a market that offers local products.
To move you can either rent a scooter, a car, a bike, or walk a lot!
What to do in Tulum?/Qué hay para hacer en Tulúm?
This region is ideal to rest and relax on the semi-virgen beaches, get tan while drinking a coconut. If you are very active there are a lot of fun things to do here!
Archeological Mayan Ruins:

The last of a set of beautiful beaches, located in a peninsula. The ticket is in Mexican pesos. official website to check current ticket price and hours of operation:https://www.inah.gob.mx/zonas/99-zona-arqueologica-de-tulum
5pm is the ideal time to visit, less crowded and a beautiful sky. Be careful with possible scams, reject these offers that imply violating the National Park Rules, I got an offer from the tour guide to sneak me in during the night and enjoy the full moon, but I rejected it since I didn't want to get arrested in a foreign country.
In the Tulum Center there is a shuttle from a company called ADO that takes you to the park entrance, it takes about 40 min. The ticket is $87 and you can do tubbing, snorkel, slides, jumping from cliffs, and more. There is a complimentary open buffet with the tickets, you can eat whenever you want and unlimited times. The best is to go at 8 AM and leave when it closes, in that way you make the most of it.

Tulum beaches, it is called 7 colors sea because of the shades of blue.

This is another part of the archeological ruins.
PLAYA DEL CARMEN:
This is a wonderful town, I stayed in a condo called Playacar found in Airbnb, strategically located 5 blocks away from the 5TH Avenue, in downtown. The condo has a golf course, and a cute little forest with deer, raccoons, iguanas, and more animals. On 5th avenue is full of bars and malls. They sell coconut and churros with chocolate, also offer massages for very affordable prices. An enjoyable walk under the colorful flags! No need of vehicle in Playa del Carmen.
Chichen Itza Ruins:

No car to do this please! unless you split the cost with 5 people, otherwise always take the shuttle from the company called ADO, the tolls are not affordable, and the fuel is also expensive. Here the gift shops are very cheap, but still always negotiate! The ticket is paid at the entrance. This is considered one of the seven wonders!
Xenotes
Located in the ruins area, don't forget to go there. There are so many options to visit xenotes, to bath there an spend some time, they are located all over the riviera, consult for tours according to the city you are visiting.
The story about this specific xenote, tells about sacrifices to the gods and bodies being throw into the water.

Valladolid

On your way to Chichen Itza make a stop in Valladolid, a lovely little town!
Isla Cozumel
Take a ferry from Playa del Carmen to Isla Cozumel, there is a Pier right in Downtown, which is right by the beach, the ticket is something about $40 usd. The day of mi visit was very rainy, I looked for shelter at a restaurant, then when the sky cleared up I jumped right into the coral reef that is next to it and did some snorkeling. In the island you can either take a taxi, or rent a golf cart or a car. I rented a Jeep!!
Nightlife:
On the 5th avenue here is a street called Calle 12, there are bars and clubs. Mandala Beach is a good one! For ladies the entrance is usually free with a free drink. There is a small club Coco bongo - this si not the big one located in Cancun-
Noche:
Te sugiero ir a Mandala Beach Club.
Xcaret:
This amusement park wasn't my favorite, alert visiting one of its sisters Xel-Ha, in comparison is more expensive and the service is not as good. you can only eat food once, there is not open buffet, and the attractions are just simply not very entertaining in my opinion. lots of animals, like a zoo. They charge you the snore equipment, so bring the one that in Xxl-ha they give you away for free. Then you have to return that snorkel equipment, so the price to access is 99 usd plus 30 use to rent the snorkel. Its full of kids screaming -so its perfect for kids- but you won't be able to relax whatsoever.

So all these parks belong to the same company and here are the differences:
Xcaret: is the main attraction close by Playa del Carmen https://www.xcaret.com/en/
Xel-Ha: is a water park close by Tulum.https://www.xelha.com
Xplor: Also close to Playa del Carmen, this is a park that offers extreme sports and activities, zip lines, amphibious vehicles, caves, rafting and more. This is the most expensive one.https://www.xplor.travel/en/
Xoximilco is a dinner on little boats in the middle of the water, with plenty of lovely lights, dance, drinks. this is an authentic experience. https://www.xoximilco.com/en/
Cancun is the one that offers you luxury and prices here are not that affordable. There are three main malls called Las plazas Outlet, Kukulcan Plaza and La Isla Shopping village, which is an outdoor mall by the water, very pretty and sells products without taxes. Cancun is an area with lots of resorts and the public transportation is not bad.
Enjoy of some gelato, shopping and beautful sunset view in the mall La Isla.
What to do in Cancun?/Qué hay para hacer en Cancún?
Relax and go to the beach to drink a coconut, Playa tortugas is very nice.
Talk to local people an understand how they live, and get to know more about their culture!
Go shopping if that's your thing, very affordable.
Go to Isla mujeres (keep reading below).
Go for a long walk around the beach
Nightlife! Bars and restaurants!Coco Bongo offers a ticket with an open bar included -check times once you are there- A bar that I really liked: Monkey business!

Islas mujeres:

The most economic option is to take a bus from Downtown Cancun to Puerto Juarez where the ferry is more affordable or you can take a bus to Playa Tortugas and pay a round trip ticket for $25. The line to get in the boat is right over there.
There are beautiful coves with colorful fish, is very cheap to use their towels, beach chairs, umbrellas, life vests, and even eat at the restaurants. Here you can also appreciate local life better.
ALL-INCLUSIVE RESORT IN CANCUN
If what you are looking for is a week or weekend of relaxation in which you don't have to plan absolutely anything and your only wish is to lay on the beach and have piña coladas, I got you.

Here I'll share my experience in an all-inclusive for you to determine if this is exactly for you.
To start with, some resorts offer both experiences, the posibility to book a room without all-inclusive or with it. My experience is based on the all-inclusive that I stayed in called NYX Hotels Cancun. Now the tricky part is that there is almost no difference in the price when booking without the all inclusive option so naturally you end up booking the all inclusive experience. All inclusive means that you have all your meals covered: Breakfast buffet, lunch, dinner and even snacks throughout the day. Even when you are laying on your beach chair the food and beverages are brought to you.
This resort has four different restaurants with different menus: a Japanese restaurant called Umami; an Italian restaurant called Chianti; The Deck; and Bellavista. Food is awesome, and the ensure quality. The Deck was one of my favorite since for dinner they have a menu with mains, and at the same time a buffet option for sides, bites and dessert. The variety is excellent!
On the left Chianti restuarnt. On the right Umami restaurant.
There are two bars open, and access to drinks is basically from 10 am to 12 am.
There is always a downside in every situation and here there are two: Some annoying guests, and the noise.
I think that all-inclusive experiences tend to attract certain people that think that because they paid for this experience like everyone else did there, they have the right to be extremely annoying and zero thoughtful. From people who leaves their trash right by their chairs because they know the waiters eventually will clean it up instead of standing up and walking a few steps to the trashcans that are right on the beach, to those who listen to music without headphones, and ask the waiter for a 5 min photo session, when they are incredibly busy working and delivering everything that they are asked for. I even witnessed a lady who was doing her business in the bathroom and having a phone call at the same time. So, some people are going to act like there is no one else around them.
The noise: Be clear from the moment you book a room, contact the property to make sure they put you in a room that is not that close to the lobby nor the bar so you won't hear the constant music that goes until 12 am when you are trying to sleep. Additionally, to avoid hearing people walking up and down the stairs make sure to get a room that is either on the top floor, or that is not next to the stairs. The noise of people coming out of their rooms can be very overwhelming because the doors are not sound poof, the insulation is inexistent.

On the bright side the resort has all kinds of entertainment. They have live music almost in every restaurant, they have activities to join included in your package like yoga, boxing classes, volleyball, soccer, cooking classes, zumba, and more. You can use the gym, the cornhole, pingpong table, infinite pool by the beach. If you actually want to do tours outside the resort they offer a handful of options.

To check prices you have a few options: Booking.com provided me with the best deal since I am very consistent with them. Expedia offers rooms on other categories and prices. This is the official website of the resort:
Overall I enjoyed the experience and I think this is great for a weekend. A week is too much, and if you are a vey active person even with all the entertainment they provide on the third day you will find yourself wanting to explore more.
The sunrise from the beach of the hotel was outstanding.

Additional Information:
*Gift shops: The most affordable place to but gifts is at the entrance of Chichen Itza ruins. If you are not going there then Tulum and Playa Del carmen would be one of the most affordable leaving Cancun as the most expensive location.
*If they know you are a tourist, In Playa del Carmen and Tulum they will even ask you for tips to give you directions to find a place.
*Bargain: at a market, or street stall allows negotiate the price, the first price you receive is always very high, especially for the type of exchange.
*Transportation: There is a line of buses called ADO, on the official website you can see all the information, including prices and schedule. Check if for the trip you wish to make there is any tickets sold in advance. I didn't book anything in advance at that time, just simply showed up at the terminal and bought my tickets, although I do recommend to do it ahead if possible. Official website:
*Always have potable water with you, do not drink from the tap.
*Vaccines: There is no need of any especial vaccines to enter the country.
*Money Exchange: the Mexican Peso has a diferent price everywhere. Sometimes it feels like a joke, and the difference it is not by mere cents. In some places is 16 in others is 17, and goes up to 20. The criteria? Who knows! In places like Cancun (specially the hotel zone) is unnecessary to exchange money because everything is in dollars. But if you have to, walk around and go to the most convenient exchange. They also do this thing where have a price in dollars, and at the time of paying when you already swiped your crd they tell you that actually the price is in Mexican pesos and then the bank will charge you whatever the currency is that the moment when they do the conversion. Another good example is if you rent a car and are going to a different city the tolls also are in Mexican pesos and at the time of the conversion they really take advantage. There is a freeway called Merida Libre, which toll is way cheaper. Always take that one.
